The Southern Cross Jiu-Jitsu Academy has been running
in The Sutherland Shire for more than 40 years.
Originally called Southern Cross Goshin Ju-Jutsu Ryu, the
aim of the academy is to teach our members the most practical and realistic
form of self-defence, in a fun, friendly environment, using
the techniques from both classical, and modern forms of jiu-jitsu.
Today, the academy is located in Taren Point in Sydney's south, about a 5 minute drive
from the beautiful Cronulla beach, and is managed by Rodney Ellis.
In November of 2005 he became one of only a handful of Australians
to receive a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu,
and one of even fewer to ever
have the honour of receiving it in Brazil.
Rodney is the only Australian to live and
work in Rio de Janeiro, and be graded through each belt from
blue to black whilst there. He has also won
numerous jiu-jitsu and grappling tournaments and is the
current 79kg Black Belt Pan Pacific Gi Jiu-Jitsu Champion
(won in November 2008), which is in addition to winning the 2006 Pan Pacific
Jiu-Jitsu Championships at open weight!
In March 2009 he won the < 77kg division at the
South Pacific Submission Wrestling Championships, which are
the qualifiers for the bi-annual ADCC World Championships.
Southern Cross Jiu-Jitsu Academy is linked with Extreme
Jiu-Jitsu & Grappling headed by John Donehue,
World Champion Team Nova
Uniao and Koshinryu Ju-Jutsu Australia.
